How to clean the CP-D70DW print head

Due to high mains voltage inside, do not  remove the metal case from the printer.

Information here is to be used at your own risk.

Why do I need to clean the print head?

One reason to clean the print head is when there is a line/s running from top to bottom of the print  (as it comes out of the printer).

Another reason, which is not as common, is if there is severe contamination caused by debris on the head surface.  This debris can tear the ink sheet during the print process. (There are other causes for the ink sheet to tear that are not related to the head so don't keep cleaning it).

Where is the print head?

The print head is located about halfway down the printer. To gain access open the front and remove the green ink tray.

This is the print head and this is the area to clean using a lint free cloth and IPA solvent.

With the ink tray removed there will be enough room to gain access with your hand.

This is the area on the print head that has tiny heat elements that heat the ink sheet. Gently clean here along the whole width. If you align the print with the print head you will get an idea as to where you will find the contamination.

IF THE LINE PERSISTS IT MAY INDICATE THAT THE HEAD IS DAMAGED. IN THIS CASE CLEANING WILL NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

Also, gently clean this metal roller.  If you apply too much pressure, the roller will disengage.
